Boone Pickens is the belle of the ball at the National Clean Energy Summit
Boone Pickens has a lot to celebrate after his performance at the National Clean Energy Summit this week. Rumors had spread that he would abandon his Pickens Plan initiative after his funds suffered tremendous losses in the wake of the current economic recession. But that couldn't be further from the truth, just ask Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, Interior Secretary Salazar, Majority Leader Reid, Energy Secretary Chu, or any of the other D.C. elite in attendance February 23rd.
Bill Clinton made a particularly encouraging comment about Pickens' dedication when he stated that "this coalition has held together and intensified its conviction in the face of falling prices for oil and coal." Even temporary reductions, particularly in the price of oil, threaten to derail public interest our clean power future.
While Pickens clearly sees profitable opportunities in promoting renewable energy and curing our dependency on foreign oil, nobody can doubt his dedication to seeing this agenda through to the policy level. Perhaps Congressman Ed Markey (D-Mass) said it best, "I agree with everything that Boone Pickens said, and I never thought I'd say that." And every watt of this energy means green jobs and economic growth in America. What's going to save our planet is exactly what's going to stimulate our economy.
Pass it on,
