Behold the solar power tower of renewable energy
Southern Spain is known for beaches, bulls, and now solar power systems - introducing the worlds first solar power tower. The tower stands forty stories high, surrounded by hundreds of mirrors that all reflect and focus the sun's beams to the top. And there are plans to install thousands more mirrors. Temperatures at the top of the tower reach 400 degrees centigrade. All that heat creates steam that turns the turbines below, creating renewable energy.
The Spanish government is one of the most progressive governments on the planet with regard to renewable energy, mandating the installation of solar power systems on all new construction and renovations since 2006. The energy created from this tower costs roughly three times the price of conventional power, but officials are so confident that price will drop that there is already a second tower in production.
